Who This Guide Is For

  • Readers evaluating Auto.
  • Practitioners needing verified benchmarks and calculations.

Important Considerations

  • Verify dated prices and regional specifications before committing.
  • Review primary source disclosures and product documentation.

Dzire is wider than Aura on the checked manufacturer figures, while both have the same listed length and wheelbase. Aura merits attention where narrow access matters; Dzire warrants a rear-seat fit check. Compare equivalent petrol automatics or CNG manuals, then confirm equipment and total cost.

Match fuel, gearbox and model year

The Dzire brochure and current Aura page establish an important size difference: both are 3,995 mm long, but Dzire is 1,735 mm wide versus Aura's 1,680 mm. Their listed wheelbases are both 2,450 mm. The wider body is a reason to test three-across seating, not a guarantee of extra usable shoulder room.

Maruti's indexed brochure lists the 1,197 cc Z12E, petrol five-speed manual/AMT and CNG manual. The Aura brochure lists petrol manual/AMT and CNG manual too. Therefore “automatic available” does not distinguish the brands, and the CNG comparison needs its own luggage inspection.

These documents were checked on 22 October 2026. Record the full trim and production year, then compare equivalent safety equipment and itemised city quotations. A narrower Aura may ease a tight-gate check; neither car is shorter on these measurements.

Make the rear-seat test realistic

Compact sedans are often bought for rear passengers, yet a showroom visit can focus almost entirely on the driver. Set the front seat to its normal position before testing legroom. Sit long enough to notice thigh support, seatback angle and the location of the seat-belt buckles.

If carrying older relatives, check the movement needed to lower into the seat and stand up again. A wide-looking door opening does not guarantee easy access for someone with restricted mobility. Ask the actual passenger to try both cars where possible.

Test rear ventilation and check that bags do not obstruct foot space. A third adult should try the centre position if three-abreast travel is common. For a child restraint, follow the vehicle and restraint instructions and verify that adjacent passengers can still buckle correctly.

Examine the boot on the chosen fuel version

Carry your usual luggage or measure it before visiting. Boot volume alone does not describe the opening, wheel-arch intrusion or loading height. Check whether the suitcases needed for an airport trip fit without forcing the lid or blocking essential equipment.

A CNG version may package its cylinders differently from the petrol car. Inspect the actual variant rather than using a petrol photograph as evidence. Ask how the spare wheel, tools and emergency items are accessed when the boot is full.

For CNG ownership, map stations on your normal route and at your destination. A fuel-cost saving can feel less attractive when every refill needs a long diversion. Confirm manufacturer guidance for fuel use and servicing instead of relying on informal advice.

Compare running costs with transparent assumptions

Suppose a hypothetical petrol sedan costs ₹6 per kilometre in fuel and a CNG alternative costs ₹3.50. At 1,000 km monthly, the assumed saving is ₹2,500. An extra ₹75,000 purchase cost takes 30 months to recover on fuel alone.

Those are illustrative figures, not Dzire or Aura claims. Add petrol consumption, finance interest, maintenance differences and time spent refuelling. If monthly travel falls to 500 km, recovery doubles to 60 months under the same assumptions.

For petrol-versus-petrol comparisons, use similarly tested efficiency evidence. Manufacturer claims should be clearly labelled and cannot promise your result in school-run traffic. Obtain maintenance schedules and quotations covering the same years and kilometres, including labour and common consumables.

Check safety and choose for actual use

Read applicable reports through Bharat NCAP or the named test programme and match the model generation and covered variants. Do not assume a previous Dzire assessment covers a redesigned car or infer Aura performance from another Hyundai model.

Compare restraints, stability-control availability and parking visibility on your shortlisted trims. Then drive both on your usual types of roads. Check low-speed control, clutch effort or automatic response, and whether the driver's position remains comfortable after more than a quick loop.

Choose the Dzire if its current matched package serves your passengers and budget better; choose the Aura if its corresponding version wins those practical checks. The recommendation is conditional because no back-to-back comfort or reliability test was conducted here. Keep delivery and equipment promises in writing.

Quick questions, clear answers

Is a sedan automatically better than a hatchback for luggage?

Not for every load. A separate boot may suit suitcases while a hatchback opening can accept taller objects more easily. Test the items you actually carry and check any folding-seat limitations. Published capacity is only one part of luggage practicality.

Does CNG make sense for low annual mileage?

The upfront premium may take longer to recover. Calculate savings using your own distance, fuel prices and conservative consumption assumptions, then include filling convenience and boot needs. CNG can still suit a particular buyer, but a universal financial advantage is not established.

Should I accept dealer-arranged insurance?

Compare it with equivalent outside quotations using the same IDV, deductibles and add-ons. Ask whether any discount is conditional on buying that policy. The cheapest premium can omit useful cover, so compare policy terms rather than the headline amount alone.
